The 2018-19 school year will be my first at Kopperl ISD. I have been in education for 22 years where I have worked as an Educational Aide, Teacher/Coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and English Department Chair. I have worked for Mansfield ISD, Venus ISD, and Palmer ISD. For the past 8 years, I have worked at Venus High School as the English Department Chair teaching English II and Honors English II and have been the Head Boys Basketball Coach and assistant baseball coach. I have coached football, cross country, golf, softball, and track.
I began in education with the Mansfield ISD as a paraprofessional and coach. When I graduated from college while working a full-time job, I accepted a position with the Venus ISD as a HS English Teacher and coach. After five years in Venus, I was offered the position of Athletic Director/ Head Boys Basketball Coach at Palmer ISD. During the four years I was at Palmer, I also gained experience as the high school assistant principal for one year. In 2010 I returned to Venus High School as the Head Boys Basketball and Girls and Boys Golf coach. During this time, I served as the Chair of the English department. I thoroughly enjoy getting to see students and athletes accomplish goals that they set for themselves. What I try to convey to my students and athletes is that there are two things that they have complete control over and will impact them the most in life; Attitude and Effort!
My wife Stephanie and I have been married for 23 years. We met in high school and although we went to different schools, I guess you could say we were “high school sweethearts”. She grew up in Maypearl and I grew up in Venus and we were rivals that are seven miles apart. We have two boys that keep us busy. Nolan is 17 and will be a Senior next year, and Hayden who is 15 and will be a Sophomore. We have a 12 year old Golden Retriever named Ranger who is the best pet that we have ever had.
When I am not at the school, I enjoy playing golf, going fishing, and spending time with my family at the lake. My oldest son Nolan and I enjoy playing guitar as well. My wife and I enjoy spending time together and antique shopping. We love Canton and Antique Alley!
