Watercolor, one of the most difficult of mediums to master,
also allows the students quiet, thoughtful,
and personal opportunities for creativity. It can be a magical experience.
You never really know for
sure where and how the colors might blend and flow.
After perfecting our drawings, we cut the image into linoleum blocks and inked them to make multiple, colorful prints.
The blocks look as good as the prints.
During our calligraphy unit, we turned our favorite quotes into works of art.
After a fieldtrip to the Dallas Museum of Art where we toured an exhibit of Van Gogh's paintings, we returned to do our own cooperative learning renditions of "Starry Night Over the Rhone" and "Starry Night."
We painted our names in monochromatic 1-point perspective.
After studying about the elements and principles of design, color theory, art history, and numerous other details, we finally had the chance to try our hand at real painting. What do you think?
Our study of the human body and its proportions ended with a fun project of making little people sculptures.
Working in clay is always challenging,
especially when you are working in reverse. Shown here, some of our

Throwing pottery was a fun way to end the year. It was messy, but challenging and lots of laughs. Some of us really had a knack for the art of throwing pottery.
